The winter has been long and cold and the weather still might be a little brisk at times, but there are clear signs that spring is in the air. When spring comes, there is warmer weather, flowers blooming and green growing everywhere. These are all signs, of course, that summer is coming and it is time to start getting ready for everyone’s favorite season: pool season.
Just picture yourself lounging by the crystal clear water, the Sun casting it’s warm rays over the surface, the kids setting up to play a game of pool volley ball. The scent of sunscreen in the air mixes with the smells coming from your backyard grill. The taste of a crisp and refreshing beverage on your tongue as you relax and dip your toes into the cool water is heavenly. If you close your eyes, you can see, smell, and almost feel it all– summertime is coming, it is almost here.
You might feel ready for all of the fun and relaxation that comes with a summer spent by the pool, but is your pool ready? There is a lot that needs to be done before you can dip your toes in that water. After being closed up and winterized for the colder months, you have your work cut out for you.
Do It Yourself
The first thing you want to do to start the process of re-opening your pool is to pull out all of the equipment and supplies that you stored. Since they have been sitting unused for a while, you need to give them a thorough inspection. Make sure that all debris was cleaned out properly during the winterization process, and that there are no tears, holes, or cracks. Pay special attention to the valves, checking to make sure they are in working order and that the O-rings are not cracked. Assuming all is in good shape, this is a good time to go ahead and lubricate the equipment and get it ready for use. After you pull off and store the pool cover, go ahead and hook everything up and get it working.
The biggest part of “un” winterizing your pool is getting everything properly cleaned and sanitized. Skim the top of the pool, vacuum the bottom of the pool, scrub the sizes, and rid the pool of any and all debris, much, and calcification. You also need to use the appropriate pool chemicals to shock and then balance the water to make sure it is clean, clear, and sanitary. Sometimes the process of getting your pool ready for summer can take a few days to a couple weeks.
